Vision of PSHE at Seaford Primary School
At Seaford Primary our curriculum will enable children to build healthy, respectful friendships, personal resilience and character to face life’s adversities. Staff will support children to achieve goals and be ambitious. The children will develop skills in order to look after their mental health, have a sound understanding of risk, know how to seek for help and use their knowledge to make safe and informed decisions.

The importance of PSHE
Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) education is a school subject through which pupils develop the knowledge, skills and attributes they need to manage their lives, now and in the future. These skills and attributes help pupils to stay healthy, safe and prepare them for life and work in modern Britain. PSHE education helps pupils to achieve their academic potential, and leave school equipped with skills they will need throughout later life.
What does PSHE look like at Seaford Primary School?
There are 6 pieces of jigsaw which signify each term. Each year group from Year 1 to Year 6, uses the same topic at the same time and these are progressive in structure. In Reception, social and emotional objectives are embedded in the PSED Early Years Foundation curriculum which also supports development of communication and language. The Jigsaw Charter and additional resources help children and adults adopt a whole school approach to each session. Key stage assemblies and songs support the coming together of a whole school theme. Term 1 – being in my world Term 2 – celebrating differences Term 3 – dreams and goals Term 4 – healthy me Term 5 – relationships Term 6 – changing me All staff lead sessions through the guided structure of Jigsaw but enable lesson content to be adapted through discussion with children where necessary. Jigsaw promotes the use and application of the school values and provides regular opportunities for children to be mindful and calm to improve their mental well-being.
What do our children say about PSHE?
“I enjoy Calm Me time in Jigsaw lessons. When I hear the chime I try to see how long I can hear it for. I also think about the forest which is my favourite place. I feel all relaxed and ready to learn more.”
Connie - Year 2
“PSHE is amazing for our mental health.”
Thomas - Year 6
“PSHE is about learning how to persevere.”
Imogen - Year 6
