Vision

We inspire our children. We give them opportunities to pursue their natural curiosity. We explore and investigate. This helps develop their knowledge and understanding of the world around them.

We live in an increasingly scientific and technological age. We prepare children with the knowledge, skills and attitudes for an ever-changing world.

The importance of Science

Technology and the products of science surround us every day. Scientific skills and knowledge teach children how to think, learn, solve problems and make informed decisions. These skills are key to every aspect of a child’s education and life. They span from school to their career.

Science at Seaford Primary School

We use a variety of teaching and learning styles. These develop children’s knowledge, skills and understanding.

Investigations throughout the school follow the same format.

In key stage 1 we introduce predictions, equipment, diagrams, results and evaluations.

In key stage 2 we build on these and introduce methods, fair testing and conclusions.

We encourage children to ask and answer scientific questions. They observe, talk, listen, draw, write and evaluate what they have done. We encourage them to:

  • read Science based texts
  • use computing for research and recording
  • take part in ‘real’ scientific activities, carrying out practical tasks.

What our children say about Science

“We love experiments and investigations.”

“I’m interested in ‘Growing Plants’ because of climate change.”

“I like cooking in school, it will help me when I’m older.”
